Town Hall Hotel Waratah re-opens with a brand new look and feel

Updated: Jul 12, 2019

Waratah's 153-year-old Town Hall Hotel is back open for business after receiving a major renovation.

Hotelier Paul Hunter said the project was a long time coming and provided an opportunity for the hotel to appeal to a larger market with a more inviting fit-out, improved food offering and larger drinks selection.

"The scope of works grew as the job progressed, and as we expected, there were quite a few items that needed more attention than originally thought," Paul said.

"With the hotel closed throughout the course of the renovation, we were aiming for a 13-week turnaround which we knew was ambitious. We ended up re-opening after 15 weeks which is still pretty quick considering the amount of work that took place."

The project, carried out by Fabric Architecture, including gutting the entire building to build a brand-new interior design, as well as updating the hotel's facade.

"It’s a much more functional layout with different areas flowing into each other," Paul said.

"We're really happy with the outcome because it’s opened up the public bar considerably, while still keeping a great atmosphere and paying homage to the site’s 153-year history as a pub."

Refurbished metal ceilings are just one aspect of the renovation that owners believe to be a highlight of the design.

"We're really happy with the outcome because it’s opened up the public bar considerably, while still keeping a great atmosphere and paying homage to the site’s 153 year history as a pub..."

Paul said being respectful of the venue's history was an important aspect of the renovation and is reflected in a number of ways, including the hotel's new logo.

"When we re-imaged the brand, we really wanted to include some of the hotel's history and we've done that with a logo inspired by the hotel’s history with the Tooth’s Brewery."

And of course, a brand new kitchen deserves a brand new menu, and not unlike the hotel's design, the menu has been created to provide a little something for everyone.

" There’s a whole new menu focused on real pub food," Paul said.

"There's some great selections catering for all tastes including ribs, steaks, and burgers through to a vegan pumpkin and tofu vindaloo curry."

The Town Hall Hotel is open seven days per week from 10am to 12am Monday through to Saturday, and 10am 'till 9pm on Sunday.
