Shoal Bay Country Club has been listed in the top eight finalists for the prestigious 2018 Restaurant and Bar Design Awards, a globally recognised competition dedicated to the design of food and beverage spaces.

Now in its 10th year, the prestigious and independent awards program included entries from more than 70 countries.

Nominated in the Australia and Pacific Bar Design category, Shoal Bay Country Club is up against contenders such as Barangaroo House in Sydney and Baroq House in Melbourne to take out the top gong.

Eastern Hotels Group spokesperson Andrew Lazarus said he was thrilled to know the venue had been recognised by such an illustrious and international program.

"We couldn't be happier," he said.

"We are ecstatic with how our renovation of the country club turned out and it's unbelievable to have that recognised on an international scale, especially by such a prestigious awards program."

The $6 million venue renovation, designed by Luchetti-Krelle and carried out last year, aimed to recapture the beach-side essence of the venue and pay tribute to its history within the Port Stephens area.

“Shoal Bay Country Club draws its inspiration from the vibrant beach culture of its heyday - back in the 1950’s," designer Rachel Luchetti said.

"This was largely an exercise in reinstating the charm that had been stripped from the building following a devastating fire and subsequent renovations. Nostalgia is the underlying theme here, with the desire to recapture the hearts of the locals whilst appealing to holiday makers once again.”

The awards will take place in London on 4 October 2018.
