The Queens Wharf Hotel will once again play a pivotal role in Newcastle’s sporting community, as the city prepares to host the 25th Anniversary of the Sparke Helmore Newcastle City Triathlon this weekend.
The hotel last week hosted the first installment of the 2018 Harbour Games water volleyball tournament, and is now preparing to become home base for the iconic triathlon event.
Queens Wharf Hotel director Ben Dawson said he is looking forward to once again partnering with the Sparke Helmore Newcastle City Triathlon to bring a fantastic sporting event to the city.
"The hotel has been working in collaboration with triathlon director Paul Humphreys to ensure this is another a successful installment of the event," he said.
"The finish line will be at the hotel car park with presentations to be held at the end of our wharf. Registration will also be held at the hotel on Saturday and Sunday morning.''
Expected to attract more than 2,000 participants and in excess of 3,000 spectators, the event is a major draw card for Newcastle, and in particular the Queens Wharf precinct.
“In 2018, the Sparke Helmore event continues to promote healthy living, giving participants and spectators the opportunity to connect with and experience the renewed precinct and unique course,” event director Paul Humphreys said.
“The Queens Wharf Hotel is an ideal venue for this event as it allows access to the harbour and wharf for the swim, road and park for the cycle leg, and foreshore paths for the run leg.
"It has allowed an iconic location to become home to an iconic event that promotes an active lifestyle.''
The event will be held on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 February, 2018.
