Hunter's Biggest ‘Schnit Night In’ To Support Local Pubs

Updated: May 13, 2020

On Tuesday, 19 May local pubs across Newcastle and the Hunter are asking their communities to order an iconic chicken schnitty for dinner in a bid to create the Hunter’s Biggest ‘Schnit Night In’.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began earlier this year and pubs were forced to close their doors, one of the most popular take-away meal items has been the chicken schnitzel with some pubs selling out night after night.

“For the past few months our local pubs have been working overtime thinking up new ways to serve customers and stay engaged with their communities,” Australian Hotels Association - Newcastle Hunter President Rolly de With said.

“Take-away, delivery, and drive-through meals have provided one way for venues to operate, but make no mistake, these are unprecedented and challenging times.

“We know people out there want to show their support for local pubs and we also know the most popular take-away meal right now is the good old schnitty, so why not combine the two?”

The Hunter’s Biggest Schnit Night In campaign is a simple initiative that will allow people to support their local pub by joining together on Tuesday, 19 May and ordering a delicious take-away schnitty for dinner. Diners are encouraged to snap a pic and upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #SchnitNightIn.

“We hope people will take the opportunity to be a part of something fun that supports their local pub,” Mr de With said.

“By joining together and using the hashtag across social media our goal is to recreate that community feel people might be missing while we all continue to stay at home.”
