Great shave for Royal Federal staff

Hotel operator Dave Anderson and bar manager Jack Emery will shave their heads on 13 April.

For the fourth time in as many years, staff at The Royal Federal Hotel, Branxton are gearing up to undergo 'The Greatest Shave' in support of the Leukemia Foundation.

On Friday, 13th April staff, including hotel operator Dave Anderson, will shave their heads along with members of the community, in front of a venue full of people to help raise money for those affected by blood cancer.

In addition to shaving his head, Dave will also be taking part in the upcoming Newrun Hill to Harbour 21 km Newcastle half-marathon to help raise additional funds.

"We've got the jar on the bar, we run different specials over the month that include us making a donation, there's a blue drinks special on the night of the shave, and I've also been getting sponsorship per kilometre for the marathon. But most of our donations will come in on the night," Dave said.

"I also wear the Greatest Shave T.shirt while I'm out training for the marathon and through Facebook I've let everyone know that for every car horn beep I get while I'm out running, I will donate an additional $5 to the cause."

Over the years, the pub has already raised in excess of $10,000 for the Leukemia Foundation.

"It's important to us because everyone is touched by cancer in one way or another, and it's great that we have a bit of a voice in the community to be able to do something about it," Dave said.

To make a donation or to support the staff at The Royal Federal Hotel, Branxton contact the hotel on (02) 4938 1335 or via Facebook.
